---------- the SYMPOSIUM |
||||||
The principal speakers (artists and curators) addressed how light has influenced their practice, and there was a twin focus on makers who work in the fields of glass and lighting sculpture. They also reflected on the shifting barriers in their practice between art, craft, sculpture, and lighting design. The symposium was timed to coincide with the exhibition Czechmade at the Crafts Study Centre and the launch of a new lighting sculpture for the interior lobby of the Centre by Peter Freeman. Commenting on the symposium, Professor Simon Olding said, ‘urban FIELD is delighted to build on the success of its first international symposium held in November 2007 and bring together an international panel of artists who will not only speak but in the cases of Peter Freeman and Tine Bech illustrate their practice through new work. Peter Freeman’s new installation Reflexive will be launched at the Crafts Study Centre to tie in with this year’s symposium.’ the SPEAKERS: Bob Martin, Visual Arts Officer (Crafts), Arts Council England, South East; Peter Freeman (Cornwall, UK); Tine Bech (Denmark and University for the Creative Arts); and Laurie J Lea (USA). ---------- |
